Uruguayan forward Darwin Nunez has left Liverpool to join Al-Hilal on a three-year deal, the Saudi Pro League club have confirmed.
The transfer, valued at £46.3m, ends Nunez’s two-year spell at Anfield. Liverpool had signed him from Benfica in June 2022 for an initial £64m.
During his time with the Reds, Nunez registered 40 goals in 143 games. However, in the club’s Premier League title-winning campaign last season, he was limited to just eight league starts.
A statement from Liverpool read: “Everybody at the club would like to thank Darwin for his contributions and wish him and his family all the best for the future.”
Nunez has already linked up with his new teammates at their pre-season camp in Germany.
His exit could influence Liverpool’s transfer plans, particularly their pursuit of Newcastle’s Alexander Isak. The Magpies have reportedly rejected an opening bid of £110m for the Sweden striker.
Nunez made an instant impact upon his Liverpool debut, scoring in the 3-1 Community Shield victory over Manchester City in 2022. He also found the net on his Premier League debut but was sent off in only his second league appearance.
Injuries disrupted his rhythm during his first season, though he still managed 15 goals in 42 matches. The following campaign saw him improve that tally to 18 from 54 outings. However, his opportunities became more limited after Arne Slot took over from Jurgen Klopp in 2024.
Last season, Nunez netted just seven times in 47 appearances. Across his Premier League career with Liverpool, he scored 25 goals in 95 matches, with nearly half of those appearances (46) coming from the bench.
