Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has suggested clubs could be biding their time to bid for his out-of-favour players — and warned his squad members that their World Cup ambitions will be damaged without first-team football.
Jadon Sancho, Antony and Alejandro Garnacho are among the players who will be hoping to go to the finals next June but have been left out of United’s squad for their pre-season friendlies in the US, and Amorim dismissed a suggestion that their transfer value will drop if they are not sold during the transfer window.
“I understand other clubs are maybe waiting until the last minute and they can [offer] surprises,” said the Portuguese.
“If they want to play in the World Cup, they need to play. I’m really happy with that because I have more options. If they have to fight each other to play then, for me, it’s perfect.”

Antony stats, contract
After joining Betis in January, Antony rediscovered the brilliance that made the 20-time English champions pay Ajax £86 million for him in August 2022.
United agreed to pay 84% of Antony’s wages when he made the move, according to a BBC Sport report saying he earns more than £100,000 a week on his deal until 2027.
The Brazil international finished on nine goals and five assists for Betis, splitting his direct goal involvements evenly between LaLiga and the Conference League.
He returned to Brazil’s squad in June after an absence of more than two years, remaining an unused substitute for games against Ecuador and Paraguay.

Jadon Sancho stats, contract
Former England attacker Sancho joined United for £73 million from Borussia Dortmund in July 2021 but has struggled at Old Trafford, although his form improved significantly during a loan switch to his former club for the second half of the 2023/24 season.
The 25-year-old spent almost all of last season on loan at Chelsea, contributing five goals and 10 assists across 39 appearances in the Premier League and Europe, including a strike in their 4-1 victory over Betis in the Conference League final.
Reports have suggested Juventus are interested if Sancho takes a substantial cut to a wage speculated to be around £300,000 a week.
Sancho featured for the Three Lions at Euro 2020 but has not been part of an international squad for almost four years.

Alejandro Garnacho stats, contract
Garnacho produced 11 goals and 10 assists in 58 games in all competitions for United last season but did not start in three consecutive matches before being left out of their 2-0 home win over Aston Villa on the final day.
Chelsea have the 21-year-old on a “shortlist” of potential targets, transfer reporter Fabrizio Romano has said.
The wideman signed a new contract in April 2023 keeping him at United until 2028, with Spotrac saying his weekly wage is £50,000.
Argentina have not named Garnacho in their last two squads. His most recent international appearance was in November 2024.
When is transfer deadline day?
The transfer window closes on Monday, September 1 2025, when clubs have until 23:00 BST to complete deals.
Premier League clubs voted against moving the deadline to a date before the season starts, instead aligning with the rest of Europe.
