Dallas Cowboys star defensive end Micah Parsons wrote on social media that he had officially submitted a trade request to the team’s co-owner, executive vice president, CEO, and director of player personnel, Stephen Jones. The announcement came after the Cowboys and Parsons came to an impasse regarding a contract extension for the four-time Pro Bowler.
“Yes, I wanted to be here. I did everything I could to show that I wanted to be a Cowboy and wear the star on my helmet,” Parsons wrote. “I wanted to play in front of the best fans in sports and make this America’s team once again. The team my pops and I grew up cheering for way up in Harrisburg, PA.”
“Unfortunately, I no longer want to be here,” he continued. “I no longer want to be held to close-door negotiations without my agent present. I no longer want shots taken at me for getting injured while laying it on the line for the organization, our fans, and my teammates. I no longer want narratives created and spread to the media about me.”
Parsons described how contract negotiations have played out with the Cowboys. Though he has previously “stayed quiet” to get a deal done, he said that he wanted to “clear some things up.”
“I had my agent reach out to the Cowboys last off-season after my third year in hopes of getting a deal done early,” he clarified. “Unfortunately, the team did not want to start any negotiations at that point. I was ok with that, didn’t complain, and focused on the 2024 season.”
Parsons said that his agent advised him to wait for other contract extensions to be announced because that would drive up the price of his deal. However, he expressed that he “didn’t care” because he wanted to secure himself “as a Cowboy long-term.”
“I knew I would be leaving money on the table, but again I was okay with that,” he wrote. “Again, radio silence as far as my extension.”
Parsons then said that he spoke with Stephen Jones in March of 2025, where the conversation somehow shifted to a contract extension. Though Parsons “engaged in a back and forth,” he said that he didn’t “believe this was supposed to be a formal negotiation.”
“But when my agent reached out and spoke to Adam (Prasifka), he was told the deal was pretty much already done,” he wrote. “My agent, of course, told him that wasn’t the case and also reached out to Stephen Jones. Again, the team decided to go silent.”
Parsons said that he and his agent decided they would wait for the Cowboys to reach out to them, but they were never contacted. He added that the team had participated in zero conversations with Parsons’ agent.
“Not one demand has been made by my agent about money, years, or anything else. Still, I stayed quiet,” he concluded. “But again, after repeated shots at myself and all the narratives, I have made the tough decision I no longer want to play for the Dallas Cowboys. My trade request has been submitted to Stephen Jones personally.”
According to sources who spoke to The Athletic’s Dianna Russini, the Cowboys do not intend to trade Parsons. However, “teams around the league are planning to reach out to check on his availability today.”
Since being drafted in 2021, Micah Parsons has been named to four Pro Bowls and named an All-Pro three times. His 52.5 sacks are the fifth-most in the NFL since he entered the league in 2021, behind only Myles Garrett, T.J. Watt, Trey Hendrickson, and Nick Bosa.
