It has been another frantic summer transfer window in the Premier League.
Clubs still have four weeks to go before the window closes at 7pm on September 1 but the race is on to get players on board prior to the season kicking off on the weekend of August 15/16/17/18.
Plenty of business has already been done – either side of the Club World Cup – and here we rank our top five buys so far:
5. Anthony Elanga – Nottingham Forest to Newcastle (£55m)
The Sweden international was a key member of the Forest side that over-achieved last season and will fill a problem position on the right-hand side of Newcastle’s front three.
The 23-year-old scored six goals and added 11 assists as Nuno Espirito Santo’s men finished seventh last term.
Elanga will add pace and creativity on Tyneside, although he will be desperately hoping countryman Alexander Isak stays at St James’ Park.
4. Jhon Arias – Fluminense to Wolves (an initial £15m)
A deal that has flown under the radar but, make no mistake, Arias is the real deal.
A Colombia international described as “one of the best players in South America,” by former Brazil boss Fernando Diniz.
Arias was one of the star performers in Fluminense’s run to the Club World Cup semi-finals before deciding to swap Brazil for Wolverhampton. He created 18 chances in the United States, 50 per cent more than any other player in the tournament.
He will be expected to fill the hole created by Matheus Cunha’s move to Manchester United.
3. Viktor Gyokeres – Sporting CP to Arsenal (an initial £55m)
The man Arsenal fans hope will transform the team from nearly men to trophy winners.
The Swede scored 97 goals in 102 appearances for Sporting, propelling them to the Primeira Liga title in both his seasons in Lisbon.
Arsenal have lacked an out-and-out striker for some time with the absence of a prolific goalscorer often cited as the reason they have finished second for three successive Premier League campaigns.
Gyokeres didn’t come cheap, especially given he is 27 years of age, but he is tailor made to thrive in North London.
2. Granit Xhaka – Bayer Leverkusen to Sunderland (an initial £13m)
Xhaka finished 16th in the Ballon d’Or voting in October 2024, just five months after Sunderland had limped to a 16th-placed finish in the Championship.
At that stage, no-one could have imagined Xhaka, capped 137 times by Switzerland, rocking up on Wearside nine months later.
But Sunderland’s promotion, and the break up of the Leverkusen side that Xabi Alonso guided to their first Bundesliga title, has altered the landscape.
The 32-year-old returns to the Premier League just two years after leaving Arsenal and his experience and know-how will prove invaluable to a Sunderland team that was the youngest in the second tier last season.
1. Milos Kerkez – Bournemouth to Liverpool (£40m)
Liverpool may have signed Florian Wirtz and Hugo Ekitike but it’s Kerkez who we believe will prove the shrewdest acquisition of the lot.
The Hungary full-back is the natural successor to Andy Robertson down Liverpool’s left side and will look to replicate the Scot’s regular contributions to the team’s attack.
Kerkez provided eight assists over two seasons at Bournemouth but expect that number to rocket given the quality of players around him at Anfield.
Fit, robust and energetic, the 21-year-old ticks every box in an Arne Slot team.
