Son Heung-min is closing in on a move to LAFC after confirming he will leave Tottenham.
Son announced his decision to quit Spurs on Saturday and that he was exploring other options. He appears to have settled on Los Angeles with the BBC reporting the 33-year-old will move to MLS subject to the successful passing of a medical.
The South Korea star has made 454 appearances for Spurs since joining from Bayer Leverkusen for £22million in 2015, scoring 173 goals.
LAFC set to pay MLS record fee for Son
Remarkably, Tottenham could recoup much of that amount with LAFC reportedly willing to pay £20m, a fee that would surpass the previous MLS record set when Atlanta United signed Emmanuel Latte Lath from Middlesbrough for £16.6m earlier this year.
Son made his final appearance for Spurs in the 1-1 pre-season draw against Newcastle in Seoul yesterday and received a guard of honour when replaced in the 65th minute.
Afterwards, he told the club’s official website: “It was a perfect moment. Sharing these beautiful moments are something that I will never forget and I will always appreciate it – from the fans, the players and the gaffer.
“He understood my situation and was always on my side. He always listened to me and asked what I wanted to do. I have a huge respect and am very grateful.”
Spurs will always be in my heart – Son
Son will leave a club legend after captaining Tottenham to their first trophy win in 17 years when they beat Manchester United to win the Europa League in May.
He added: “I wish them all the best. There are five competitions ahead and I hope they win all the five competitions. That’s my wish.
“Spurs will always be in my heart and the boys will always be in my history books. It was incredible.
“They’ve gone so fast, the 10 years. I can only think about the beautiful moments, amazing moments.”
