Arsenal’s newest striker, Viktor Gyokeres, has seen the sales of his No.14 shirt surpass any signing in the club’s modern history.
Although the final figures are still being compiled from retailers and online outlets, early data confirms that interest in Gyokeres merchandise has set a new benchmark for the North London side.
The 27-year-old forward officially joined Arsenal on July 26 in a deal worth an initial £54.8m. From there, he immediately boarded a flight to link up with the squad for their pre-season tour in Singapore and Hong Kong.
He was unveiled to fans inside the Singapore National Stadium before the friendly against Newcastle United, where he was met by a raucous reception.
Speaking after that match, manager Mikel Arteta admitted that both players and staff were “very excited” to work with Gyokeres – a feeling clearly echoed by the Arsenal faithful, who have long been calling for a marquee centre-forward signing.
Henry’s iconic No.14 shirt
While Gyokeres would have preferred to take the traditional striker’s No.9 shirt, that jersey is currently worn by Gabriel Jesus.
Instead, he opted for the number 14, famously worn by Arsenal legend and record goalscorer Thierry Henry, giving the new signing’s shirt an added emotional weight for the supporters.
To celebrate his signing, Arsenal announced that, for a limited time, they would print Gyokeres’ name and number on any 2025-26 shirt free of charge, an offer that usually costs £16.
This promotion caused such an influx of orders that the club’s website briefly went down due to overwhelming demand.
The complimentary shirt printing runs until Thursday, and with the continuing surge in orders from various sales channels, the overall total is expected to push the record even higher.
Fan favourites overtaken
Before Gyokeres’ arrival, shirts bearing the names of Bukayo Saka, Declan Rice and captain Martin Odegaard were among the best-sellers.
Rising academy graduate Myles Lewis-Skelly also attracted notable demand, partly because of his No.49 shirt, which recalls the unbeaten run of Arsene Wenger’s Invincibles.
Since the Sporting CP striker’s move, however, Gyokeres has eclipsed them all.
The Swedish international has already begun training with his new team, taking part in a session in Singapore before the squad flew on to Hong Kong.
Arsenal will next be in action against rivals Tottenham Hotspur at Kai Tak Sports Park on Thursday, July 31.
