Yoane Wissa has rejoined Brentford’s first-team training following a conversation with head coach Keith Andrews but still intends to leave the club during the current transfer window.
The forward met new manager Andrews at the club’s training ground on Wednesday morning, aiming to resolve tensions that had built up over the past two weeks.
Their dialogue has led to Wissa resuming senior training for the first time since he abruptly left Brentford’s pre-season camp in Portugal on July 21.
Despite returning to the fold, the 28-year-old remains keen on a move to Newcastle, where he would have the opportunity to play in the Champions League – a major motivation behind his desire to leave.
According to multiple reports, Brentford are open to selling Wissa but are holding out for a fee well above the £25 million plus £5m in add-ons offered by Newcastle.
The club also wants to secure a replacement before finalising any potential transfer, which could impact how soon a deal might be agreed.
In addition to his return to training, Wissa was present at the Premier League’s official media day on Tuesday, taking part in promotional shoots alongside the rest of the Brentford squad.
Wissa missed the team’s 1-0 friendly victory at QPR last Saturday and it remains unclear whether he will be involved in Friday’s at home to Borussia Monchengladbach (18:30 BST / 13:30 ET / 10:30 PT).
The situation marks a turnaround after Wissa had been at odds with the club following his early departure from Portugal.
During that time, he made it known that he was unwilling to train or play for Brentford again and reiterated his ambition to move to St James’ Park.
